Steve Carell’s beloved Despicable Me character Gru is about to embark on a new adventure with his expanding family.
Illumination and Universal Pictures have unveiled the trailer for Despicable Me 4, the latest installment in the popular animated comedy franchise.
Set nearly seven years after the events of 2017’s Despicable Me 3, the film follows Gru, Lucy (voiced by Kristen Wiig), and their adoptive daughters Margo, Edith, and Agnes as they welcome a new addition to the family: Gru Jr.
However, not all is smooth sailing in Gru’s household, as Gru Jr. seems to harbor some resentment towards his father.
The family’s tranquility is further disrupted when Silas Ramsbottom (voiced by Steve Coogan) alerts them to the escape of a new supervillain, Maxime Le Mal (voiced by Will Ferrell), who is plotting revenge against Gru.
As the family seeks refuge in a safe house, they find themselves embarking on a daring heist. The official synopsis teases Gru’s confrontation with Maxime Le Mal and his accomplice, Valentina (voiced by Sofia Vergara), forcing the family into a thrilling chase.
Joining the voice cast for Despicable Me 4 are Joey King, Stephen Colbert, and Chloe Fineman from Saturday Night Live.
The screenplay, penned by Mike White and Ken Daurio, promises to deliver another dose of comedic hijinks and heartwarming moments.
Despicable Me 4 follows the success of Minions: Rise of Gru, which became a box office hit in 2022, setting records during its opening weekend.
Fans can catch Gru and his family’s latest escapades when Despicable Me 4 hits theaters on July 3.
