Director David Lowery has explained why Tinker Bell doesn’t glow in the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s Peter Pan.
In an interview with SFX, Lowery discussed the differences between the new film and the 1953 animated classic, including the portrayal of Tinker Bell, who is played by Yara Shahidi. While Tink sprinkles magic dust that glows on sleeping children, the fairy herself does not glow in the movie.
Lowery explained that in a live-action context, it would be unclear where the light is coming from, unlike in animation where it can be easily depicted. The new film also features a revised version of Tiger Lily, played by Alyssa Wapanatahk, who now has spoken dialogue and was intentionally altered to be more appropriate for modern audiences.
Disney has several other live-action remakes in the works, including The Little Mermaid, Moana, and Lilo & Stitch
