“Sony Sets Release Dates: Speculation Grows for Spider-Man 4 in 2025”

A potential clue about the release of “Spider-Man 4″ may have surfaced as Sony Pictures recently announced two new release dates. Following the conclusion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man trilogy with “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” starring Tom Holland, the future of the franchise remained uncertain.

However, earlier this year, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that “Spider-Man 4” was in development. More recently, producer Amy Pascal and Tom Holland himself provided further updates, indicating that the movie is in the works but has been put on hold due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike.

Sony Pictures has now scheduled two new release dates for untitled Marvel movies: November 8, 2024, and June 27, 2025. Speculation has already begun regarding which movies might occupy these slots, with many suggesting that “Venom 3” could take the 2024 date, while “Spider-Man 4” could be a strong contender for the 2025 release.

The third installment of the “Venom” series, featuring Tom Hardy reprising his role, was previously rumored to have an October 2024 release date. Considering that filming is set to begin later this year, it seems logical to assign the November 2024 date to “Venom 3.” As for the 2025 release date, given what we know about the development status, “Spider-Man 4” is certainly a possibility.

At present, “Spider-Man 4” is in the early planning stages, and Tom Holland has shared details of meetings between Sony and Marvel about the movie. While they seem to have cracked the story, work cannot progress due to the ongoing WGA strike. Once the strike concludes and development can resume, the first priority will be finding a screenwriter. Despite the strike and Holland’s year-long acting break, of which he is currently eight months into, a 2025 release date for “Spider-Man 4” remains feasible.

Another significant piece of evidence supporting the notion that “Spider-Man 4” could take Sony’s 2025 release date is that the studio has no other live-action movies in such an advanced stage of development. Since Sony specified that the 2025 date is reserved for a live-action movie, we can eliminate possibilities like “Spider-Verse 4” and the Spider-Woman spinoff. Other contenders include:

“Jackpot”: The last update on this Marvel movie came in 2020 when it was revealed that Marc Guggenheim was working on the script, but no further news has been reported.

Untitled Roberto Orci movie: In 2020, Sony enlisted Roberto Orci to write a Marvel movie, but no updates have been provided since then.

Untitled Olivia Wilde movie: Olivia Wilde was hired in 2020 to direct a female-centric Marvel movie for Sony. As of December 2022, she remains attached, but there have been no further updates.

“Hypno-Hustler”: In December 2022, Donald Glover was announced to star in and produce a movie based on the Marvel character Hypno-Hustler, with writer Myles Murphy attached. However, considering Glover’s live-action appearance in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and the lack of additional updates, the status of the project is unknown.

While Sony has other live-action Marvel movies in development that could potentially meet the June 2025 release date, it appears much more likely that “Spider-Man 4” will claim that slot. Of course, new information about Holland’s next Spider-Man film or any of these other projects could emerge in the coming months, but for now, it seems that “Spider-Man 4” is on track for.
