Nani’s Love Interest in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’ David

Disney’s live-action remake of the beloved animated film Lilo & Stitch has found its David Kawena in newcomer Kahiau Machado, according to moviewebupdate. Machado will play Nani’s love interest and Lilo’s friend. Disney has not commented on the casting announcement.

Maia Kealoha will portray the role of Lilo, while Sydney Elizebeth Agudong will play Nani. Zach Galifianakis was previously announced to have joined the cast in February. Stitch, the iconic alien character, will be created using computer-generated imagery (CGI). Dean Fleischer Camp, known for the critically acclaimed animated film Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, is directing the remake, which is expected to be a major release on Disney+.

Lilo & Stitch tells the story of a lonely human girl named Lilo who befriends a genetically engineered alien named Stitch, who was designed to be a destructive force. Together, they bond over their shared sense of family and defeat their enemies. Jason Scott Lee voiced David in the original film, while Dee Bradley Baker voiced the character in the subsequent TV series and movies.

The script for the live-action adaptation was written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, and the original film’s writers and directors, Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, are also involved in the project. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing, with Ryan Halprin serving as executive producer.

The 2002 animated film was a commercial and critical success, grossing over $273 million worldwide on an $80 million budget and receiving a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards. The live-action remake is highly anticipated by fans of the original film, and the casting of Kahiau Machado as David Kawena is sure to generate excitement among audiences.
