Star Juno Temple has revealed exciting news about the highly anticipated Sony Pictures/Marvel production, Venom 3. Temple, known for her role in the series Ted Lasso, disclosed during an interview with Variety that the film is set to be released in October 2024. The English actress expressed her enthusiasm, mentioning that filming would commence very soon.
Since its approval in April 2022, Venom 3 has been steadily progressing in production, bringing back the beloved character Eddie Brock, portrayed by Tom Hardy, and his symbiote companion to the silver screen.
Guiding the project as director is Kelly Marcel, who not only wrote the scripts for the previous two installments but is also leading the creative direction for this new foul-mouthed adventure. Marvel alum Chiwetel Ejiofor, known for his role as Mordo in the Doctor Strange films, recently joined the cast.
Hardy himself confirmed that he is deep into preparations for the upcoming film, although there has been a setback. Pre-production has come to a halt due to the ongoing writers’ strike, which has affected numerous major projects across the United States.
The Venom character has had a mixed reception in previous films. Venom made his big-screen debut in Sam Raimi’s 2007 film Spider-Man 3, where the character was portrayed by Topher Grace. The portrayal of Venom received mixed reviews, with some fans feeling that it didn’t capture the essence of the character as depicted in the comics.
In 2018, Venom received a standalone film directed by Ruben Fleischer, with Tom Hardy playing Eddie Brock. The movie delved into the character’s origin story and presented a more faithful depiction of Venom’s appearance and personality. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Venom was a box office success, paving the way for future installments.
The 2021 sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, directed by Andy Serkis, explored the relationship between Venom and Carnage, another iconic Spider-Man villain played by Woody Harrelson. The film further expanded the Venom cinematic universe and teased Eddie and Venom’s brief appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
