James Gunn is currently focused on building the DC Universe, but fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have seen diminishing returns lately, but fans hope this sequel will live up to the hilarious adventures of Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord and his crew. The trailer for the movie teases a first for Marvel films: a character dropping the f-bomb.

In the scene, we see the kind of humor that Gunn has perfected: superheroes struggling with something mundane on their way to doing something amazing. Star-Lord tries to explain how to open a car door to Nebula, but as he gets more frustrated, he eventually blurts out, “open the [bleeping] door.”

The lack of a black bar over Pratt’s mouth in the trailer has fans speculating that the scene won’t be bleeped in the final cut. This would make history for Marvel films, which have never used such explicit language. However, it would be in character for Star-Lord, who gave an inspiring speech in the first movie about the universe giving them “a chance…to give a s***.”

While it’s not uncommon for Gunn to include profanity in his superhero movies, there is some precedent in Iron Man 3. Director Shane Black’s quirky sense of humor was on display when Tony Stark told a kid whose father had left for lottery tickets that “there’s no need to be a p**** about it” before telling him which ingredients to fetch.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer teases fans without giving away the plot. Fans wonder if characters like Star-Lord, Rocket, and Groot will survive, or if Gunn is breaking all of his toys on his way out from Marvel. The reason why the Guardians are in suburbia remains a mystery, but fans are excited enough to demand their local theater “open the f******* door” when the movie premieres on May 5.
