Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom got an extended look at CinemaCon 2023, where the long-awaited DC sequel was promised to “blaze a trail forward” into the new DCU.
DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran took to the stage during the Warner Bros. Discovery panel at CinemaCon 2023, where he introduced the Aquaman sequel alongside a taped message from fellow co-CEO James Gunn.
“It’s huge and spectacular”, Gunn said. While Safran added: “The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Blue Beetle] blaze a trail forward into our DC Universe.”
The footage opens on Momoa’s Aquaman, or Arthur Curry, who now has a baby boy. We then see Randall Park’s Dr. Stephen Shin on an artic expedition, and another cut shows off the Black Trident, it’s power said to come from a great evil.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta is also seen. “I’m going to kill Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear,” he said.
A message from director James Wan was played before the footage, where he promised “this sequel has everything you love about the first film but more”.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom premieres on December 20, 2023 and will be the penultimate DC Extended Universe film before Safran and Gunn’s DCU takes over. There’s no word on a continuation of Momoa’s character in that universe yet, though the actor is hopeful that he’ll be involved.
