Disney+ is set to delight fans with a collection of 28 newly restored Walt Disney Animation Studios classic shorts, scheduled to debut on Friday, July 7. This special lineup will feature beloved characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip n’ Dale, and the studio’s first star, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The release coincides with the centennial celebration of the Walt Disney Animation Studios, a milestone being honored as part of the ongoing Disney100 festivities.

The assortment of short films encompasses a range of titles, including both well-known classics and lesser-known gems. Audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy Disney’s earliest theatrical shorts, along with a delightful selection of entertaining shorts starring the studio’s most iconic characters.

The series will conclude in October with “Chips Ahoy,” a CinemaScope short from 1956 that stars Donald Duck and his mischievous chipmunk rivals. This finale will lead up to The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary on Monday, October 16.

The restorations have been meticulously undertaken by the dedicated Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, led by director Kevin Schaeffer. Working in close collaboration with creative advisors from Walt Disney Animation Studios, including Dorothy McKim, special projects and 2D animation producer, and with the expertise of color supervision by Mike Giaimo and animator Eric Goldberg, this team has ensured that the films are beautifully restored and authentic to the creative intentions of the original filmmakers. Notably, this same team recently completed the restoration of “Cinderella” and is currently working on restoring “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Dorothy McKim expressed great enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to be working with Kevin Schaeffer and the Studio’s restoration team in presenting these beautifully restored versions of classic Disney animated shorts.

Two of our top artistic talents have lent their expertise and passion to the project to make sure that the films look their very best and are authentic to the creative intentions of the original filmmakers. We’re very excited to be sharing these wonderful shorts with the Disney+ audience. They have never looked or sounded better.”
