DC Studios’ Co-CEO Peter Safran, in a conversation with Vanity Fair, has unveiled plans to make the DC Universe (DCU) more accessible for viewers. Safran, alongside fellow CEO James Gunn, aims to minimize confusion and maximize enjoyment by allowing newcomers to enter the shared universe without the need to binge-watch previous movies or TV shows.

Safran expressed excitement about upcoming DCU projects such as Superman: Legacy, Creature Commandos, Peacemaker Season 2, and Blue Beetle, stating that audiences can enjoy these without prior knowledge. The approach intends to address a common criticism of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) requiring extensive viewing to grasp the latest installments.

Superman: Legacy, set to release in 2025, will mark the official start of the new and improved DCU. The film will introduce notable characters like Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, and Green Lantern Guy Gardner, portrayed by Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, and Nathan Fillion, respectively.

The storyline revolves around Superman’s journey as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas, navigating his Kryptonian heritage and human upbringing. Directed and written by James Gunn, known for Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, the film features David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

James Gunn acknowledged the challenge of reimagining a well-known character like Superman, emphasizing the need to differentiate his approach from previous films while paying respect to the character’s legacy.

The Superman reboot will serve as the starting point for the new DCU, followed by projects like Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing reboot, and the Wonder Woman prequel series titled Paradise Lost, all part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, marking the beginning of a fresh chapter in the DCU
