In a recent interview Benedict Cumberbatch excited fans by confirming his upcoming involvement in “some Marvel capers” next year. This announcement serves as a teaser for his return as Doctor Strange, which comes after over a year since the theatrical release of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
While it remains uncertain which specific Marvel Studios project the actor will be a part of, speculation among fans suggests that it could be related to “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” slated for release in 2026.
However, there is also a possibility that the project could address the mid-credits scenes from “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which featured Charlize Theron’s character, Clea.
Cumberbatch’s journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with his debut in Scott Derrickson’s 2016 film, “Doctor Strange,” where he portrayed the transformation of Dr. Stephen Strange into the sorcerer supreme.
Since then, he has appeared in a total of six Marvel Studios movies, including “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
Directed by Sam Raimi, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” also starred Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, and Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, among others.
Prior to his Marvel commitments, Benedict Cumberbatch will be seen in Netflix’s film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” directed by Wes Anderson. The esteemed British actor also has two drama features in the pipeline, namely “The End We Start From” and “The Book of Clarence.”
