In an exciting development for fans of The Beatles, Sony Pictures Entertainment, along with Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes and his Neal Street Productions, have announced plans to create four separate theatrical films, each focusing on a different member of the iconic band.
Mendes will direct all four films, marking the first time that Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. Mendes’ vision involves telling interconnected stories from the perspective of each band member.
This ambitious project, akin to Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman’s narrative film set in outer space with SpaceX and NASA, will be financed and distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment with full theatrical releases planned for 2027.
The project gained momentum when Mendes pitched it in Hollywood, receiving enthusiastic support from industry insiders. Sony’s Tom Rothman and Elizabeth Gabler secured the package due to their passion for the idea and commitment to innovative theatrical releases.
Mendes, along with producers Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor, will bring these stories to life, with Jeff Jones serving as executive producer for Apple Corps Ltd. The project has received warm support from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Sean Lennon, and Olivia Harrison.
The films will explore the Beatles’ journey from their early days as loveable Mop Tops to their evolution into groundbreaking artists who tackled societal issues of the ’60s. Each member faced unique challenges and pursued individual paths after the band’s breakup in 1970.
The studio and Apple Corps Ltd. expressed excitement about the project, highlighting its potential to offer a captivating and innovative cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.
With the deal confirmed, anticipation is high for the casting of each Beatles member, sparking speculation about who will bring their stories to life on the big screen.
